We had a terrific trade show at the Wireless Fleet 2007 Summit in Miami last month. Scott Sullivan, CIO from PITT-OHIO EXPRESS, was kind enough to credit Propel in his presentation. Our message was very well-received – evidenced by the fact that we’re scurrying around trying to keep up with the interest. And our presentation, “The Truth about Wireless Benefits – Not for the Faint of Heart” was a big hit for those that attended. For those that requested a copy of the slides, you can find them here. In our feature article, we summarize that presentation.

Yours,
Anthony Lacenere

Wireless fleet management benefits can be substantial or elusive. One expects them in the areas of the fleet itself: reduction in miles driven, fuel consumption, maintenance etc., in driver behavior and retention, in reduction in dispatch headcount and administrative time, in customer satisfaction and in other areas. A business case is constructed, the expected returns are shown to significantly outweigh the costs, and you’re well on your way.

But if your organization, like most organizations, relies on the “Field of Dreams” IT philosophy, your sticker could be in for a shock. Just because you build it, doesn’t mean they’ll come – “they” meaning productive users and financial benefits.

What is required for maximizing the returns on wireless fleet management benefits is combining a focus on the technology, with necessary process changes and careful management. For example, if your technology helps you discover that erratic drivers waste 30% more fuel than the steady drivers, and you don’t actually instill any process change to correct the erratic drivers, then guess what. Moreover, if you don’t manage to this, you can’t expect your process changes to stick.

That’s the 50,000 foot view. If you’d like to hear more, just drop us a line. We’d love to share with you what we do and help you and your organization maximize the value of your wireless fleet management initiative. You can also download a copy of the presentation from our website.

Propel provides companies with the ability to maximize the financial performance of capital investments. In this example, we show how a deep analysis of the expected benefits of a pilot rollout allows benefits to be amplified. Identifying which pilot users reaped the biggest benefits, and how they did so, allows you to tune the implementation and ultimate rollout to leverage the project.

Looking for a low-cost way to tune up your processes to get the most out of your IT implementations?

Propel now offers a very brief engagement to examine key factors likely to impact a project outcome, the range of possible costs and benefits, and summarizes recommendations to optimize the overall project.

If you know of anyone responsible for implementing large capital projects, please share this information with them by clicking on the "Forward email" link below.

Thank you!
